Digital products ( i.e. files like patterns, instructions, printables and so on) are extremely popular on Etsy. It's so easy to just press the Buy button an get the file immediately available to you. What's even better is the fact that after the file is purchased and added to your purchases, it remains available to you forever.
Yes, as long as Etsy exists, all your files are available to you 24/7 for re-download. Just go to you Account - Purchases and scroll to the file you need. The live link will be right there. You can download the file again, and again, and again, and... you get the drift.
But all the above is available to you ONLY if you have set up an Etsy account before purchasing that digital product!
Recently Etsy has introduced the Guest Checkout, i.e. the ability to make the purchase without the obligation to create the Etsy account. That ease of purchase seems to be liked by many, especially so by the customers who pay for the purchases through Paypal. The payment goes through in a matter of seconds, the download gets available immediately after that.
The only thing that guest buyers tend to miss is the fact that without their account Etsy has no ability to track and consolidate their purchases, to keep the tabs what files and when have been purchased. And you, the a buyer, have nowhere to go when you loose the file due to numerous mishaps that can happen an do happen in the everyday life of your computers, laptops, iPads and smart phones.
Of course, you can go to your PayPal account or to your Etsy statement to try and track the seller, ask him or her to send you the file again. That's if the seller is still active on Etsy. If the seller is out of business, you might be out of luck.
So, guest buyers, do think twice before rushing through Etsy's Guest Checkout! There are circumstances when the traditional ways might be a safer bet.
