This is a truly unisex coat knitting pattern for both girls and boys 18 inch dolls like American Girl dolls. The simple construction and streamlined shaping make this design so neutral that if will perfectly fit both genders.
The A-line shaped coat is worked flat, with set-in sleeves and an oversized hood that will accommodate eve the biggest hair. The hemline and the hood edges are trimmed in an i-cord like edging that also serves as a small decorative element.
Intermediate, not beginner pattern!
- any DK yarn that knits at 5.5 stitches per 1" (2.5cm)
For the coat look for yarn that has wool in it, wool has memory and will keep the shape of the coat and the definition of the stitch pattern stable. My sample is made from Fishermen's Wool by Lion Brand Yarns, this yarn behaves extremely well in this pattern.
